program description

Students develop musical and instrumental skills, hone their chamber music and interpersonal negotiating abilities, and evolve into strong, independent artists — all while observing their teachers and mentors perform at the Wintergreen Music Festival.

The outstanding faculty and coaches are members of the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra. These instructors play in orchestras and ensembles around the country and internationally and are university teachers or experienced pedagogues.

Student ensembles also have the option to work closely with composition students and instructors to learn, perform, and record new works. In addition, they will be members of interdisciplinary project groups and will explore the intricacies of performing chamber music with musicians outside of their discipline.

The Wintergreen LEAD Co-op is a place to get messy in possibility. It’s a place to put your guard down, be a voice of what’s next, and let inspiration seep into your musical trajectory. It allowed me a space to feel grounded in my musicianship yet challenged in my vision—riding the waves of growth without the pressure to pretend I have it all figured out.

The LEAD Cooperative program offered by Wintergreen Music is a wonderful opportunity for advanced students to delve into subjects that are extremely helpful to know but are not always discussed or taught in music curriculums at universities. The program’s intimate and cross-disciplinary setting allows for numerous individualized lessons, masterclasses, coaching, and a variety of workshops catered towards student’s needs, providing unique opportunities that are hard to get elsewhere. I especially enjoyed working on chamber repertoire of unique combinations and receiving coaching’s by every instrument represented. The community at Wintergreen also provides for a warm and special experience - I highly recommended the LEAD Cooperative program and hope to return in the future!
