Kelly Mozeik, oboe

Kelly Mozeik is the Principal Oboist in the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. She is also the Adjunct Professor of Oboe at the College of Charleston. She previously held the Principal Oboe position with the Augusta Symphony and Second Oboe with the Greenville Symphony. Kelly has been invited as a guest musician with notable ensembles such as the Atlanta Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Louisiana Philharmonic, Savannah Philharmonic, Hilton Head Symphony, and the New World Symphony.

Kelly is currently working on a Doctorate of Music degree with Reid Messich at the University of Georgia. She has been advanced to candidacy since January 2022 and anticipates completing her degree in December of 2024. Kelly was a member of the Southern Winds Quintet at UGA and won the concerto competition with Richard Strauss’ Oboe Concerto, performing it with the UGA Symphony Orchestra in 2020.

Ms. Mozeik has earned a bachelors’ degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music under the direction of Frank Rosenwein. She was a soloist in Severance Hall on two separate occasions. She followed her first degree with a Master of Music degree from Rice University, studying with Robert Atherholt. She had the honor of learning orchestral repertoire from Larry Rachleff, the director of orchestras at the Shepherd School of Music. Kelly was selected to perform Gunther Schuller’s Five Impromptus, for the composer himself.

Kelly was a member of The Orchestra Now, focusing on orchestral studies. She also has held fellowships with the Texas Music, Masterworks, and Brevard Festivals and attended the John Mack Oboe Camp. Ms. Mozeik also was a member of the Graffenegg Orchestra in the summer of 2018.

In her free time, Kelly enjoys watching Pittsburgh football and baseball. She also leads worship on piano and coordinates VBS at her home church in Pennsylvania. She is an avid Kolo dancer and enjoys spending time with her two cats, Marty and Freddie.
