Kirsty Barnett Green, violin

Originally from Geneva, Switzerland, Kirsty Barnett Green has been a member of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra since 1996, where she has served in both core and principal second violin positions and has appeared as concertmaster during the summer season.

As a soloist, Ms. Green has performed with orchestras across Europe and the United States, including engagements in Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Switzerland, and the U.S. most recently appearing with the Orchestra of the Eastern Shore.

A former member of the Ghent Trio, she frequently performs with the Harbor Quartet and the Ambrosia Quartet, as well as the Wintergreen Festival Orchestra.

Kirsty began violin studies at the age of six under Judith Berenson and graduated with honors from the Conservatoire Populaire in Geneva. She later moved to the United States to study at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with Kevin Lawrence, earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Ms. Green is also a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music.

A passionate educator as well as a performer, Kirsty Green has served on the faculties of Virginia Wesleyan University, Christopher Newport University, and the Eastern Music Festival. She has also coached for the Hampton Roads Chamber Players, Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia, and the Heartstrings Salvation Army program. 

Ms. Green currently teaches at the Governor’s School for the Arts in Norfolk, Virginia, and maintains an active private studio.
