Nicoletta Moss

Dr. Nicoletta Moss is a Greek-American conductor recognized for expressive artistry, innovative community music-making, and advocacy for lifelong musicianship. Nicoletta is the founding music director of the University of Kentucky Medical Orchestra, launched in 2025 as a new initiative for medical students, university faculty and staff, and healthcare professionals in the Lexington area. In 2026, Nicoletta completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Kentucky and served as a Teaching Assistant in the conducting studio. During doctoral studies, Nicoletta held appointments as director of the UK Philharmonia, assistant conductor of the UK Symphony Orchestra and UK Opera Theatre, and conductor of the New Horizons Band & Orchestra. Following a fellowship to attend the Wintergreen Music Festival in 2025, Nicoletta joined the leadership team as Assistant Conductor and Chair of Education beginning in the 2026 season.

Previously based in the Greater Washington, D.C. Area, Nicoletta served as music director of the Takoma Mandoleers mandolin-guitar orchestra, faculty member at Levine Music at The Music Center at Strathmore, and teaching artist in the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra’s El Sistema-inspired Sympatico program. During the 2021–2022 season, Nicoletta served as assistant conductor of the Greensboro Symphony and made a European debut with the Athens Philharmonia Orchestra in Greece. 

Nicoletta earned a Master of Music in Conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from James Madison University. Honors include James Madison University’s Early Career Music Educator Award, the Joy Hollar Costello Endowed Scholarship for Music Education, and JMU School of Music Scholarship. Nicoletta has conducted orchestras across the United States and internationally, including the Omaha Symphony, Cleveland Pops Orchestra, Denver Philharmonic, Wintergreen Music Festival Orchestra, Symphony Tacoma/Cascade Conducting Orchestra, Athens (Greece) Philharmonia, and musicians from the Atlanta Symphony. Nicoletta is a co-founder of the National Association of Medical Orchestras and a member of the American String Teachers Association, College Orchestra Directors Association, College Music Society, and Classical Mandolin Society of America. Nicoletta is passionate about creating welcoming musical communities where musicians of all ages and backgrounds can grow, collaborate, and perform together.
