Sam Nagel, bass trombone
Sam Nagel is a freelance bass trombonist and tubist based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He performs regularly throughout the East Coast with a variety of ensembles spanning jazz, commercial, Dixieland, and New Orleans brass band traditions.
A frequent performer with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Nagel has appeared in concerts throughout the United States and recently participated in the recording of the ensemble’s first album in more than forty years. Recent engagements with the orchestra also include a 23-day cruise aboard Silversea’s Silver Dawn. Additional performances include appearances with numerous Dixieland and New Orleans-style brass bands throughout western Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
His principal teachers include Jeff Bush, Brad Kerns, Jim Nova, and Sebastian Vera. Nagel holds a Master of Music degree in Performance from Duquesne University and Bachelor of Music degrees in Performance and Music Education from the University of Kentucky.
