From Camille Saint-Saëns’ unique pairing of harp and violin to Dmitri Shostakovich’s friendly duo for two violins and piano and Louise Farrenc’s stunning trio for flute, cello, and piano – you’ll be amazed at the rich spectrum of colors and characteristics composers can create through music! Festival Artist and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra violinist John Meisner finishes his three year Brahms Sonata project with the final (and most dramatic) installment of the three major works for violin and piano – made even more special at the home of Jeff and Sue Goebel, who host John each year! The evening will also feature the music of George Bridgetower, a British violinist and composer of African descent for whom Ludwig van Beethoven originally dedicated his virtuosic “Kreutzer” sonata.

Sing with Us!: There is truly no performance like Sing with Us! Enjoy a calm Wintergreen morning with Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass, set to the gorgeous views of green mountain grass and silvery blue skies. Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s compositional style surprises, as he infuses sacred elements and cinematic motion pictures with the classical styles of Brahms, Britten, and Bach. Join the Wintergreen Music Festival Orchestra and singers from across the country under the direction of Artistic Director Erin Freeman in a reflective morning meditation.

The final installment of the new In-Home Concert Specials concludes with a musical experience that will leave you feeling captivated, hopeful, and reflective. Start your musical journey with a delightful quartet for four violins followed by a boisterous and tuneful arrangement of Bizet’s Carmen Suite for Woodwind Quintet. In the highlight of the evening, Mezzo-soprano Heather Johnson performs a new arrangement of Mahler’s masterful “Songs of a Wayfarer” with string quartet. Enjoy heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine, and refreshments in the beautiful mountain home of Cynthia Shook, all while surrounded by the friends old and new that make these events uniquely special. John Meisner continues his quest to perform all of the Brahms’ Violin sonatas at his home away from home, Wintergreen! The A Major sonata quotes a song he wrote that talks of thoughts, like melodies, floating through one’s head. In fact, you’ll hear “drifting melodies” throughout the evening in this special, intimate concert held in the beautiful valley home of Jeff and Sue Goebel. Attendance is extremely limited.

Your group hike begins as Nature Foundation guides take you on a journey through the gorgeous natural setting at Wintergreen on a hike leading you to a place of contemplation and exploration. Honoring the origins of the land, you’ll hear Jim Akins perform a musical tribute on Native American style flute, telling the story of the land from the beginning. Lance Suzuki, classical flute, completes your musical journey by connecting the story to the sounds of the Wintergreen Music Festival today. This event is sure to be one-of-a-kind and space is limited.

Raise the tent and experience Fate’s ever-turning wheel with Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with full percussion, two pianos, and the 2022 Wintergreen Sing with Us! Chorus. This special concert features an opening set by the Richmond Symphony Chamber Chorus performing music of Caroline Shaw, Duke Ellington, and a unique setting of Beethoven’s “Heiligenstadt Testament,” in which he reflects on his ultimate fate: growing deaf.

We're rolling out the red carpet (quite literally!) for you to have your photo taken with a gorgeous mountain backdrop and fun musical props – the perfect way to celebrate the return of music to the mountain!

When you enter the Dunlop Pavilion, prepare to be wowed with a traditional jazz combo featuring the stylings of Meredith Riley (violin) and Charlie Messersmith (clarinet). Then, the full Wintergreen Festival String Orchestra takes the stage to delight you with sounds of tango, polka, and even a hoe down. This is one Opening Night event you don’t want to miss!
