Lindsey Kovach
Summer Education Coordinator, Wintergreen Music
Lindsey Kovach is a professional flutist, music educator, and arts administrator. Currently based in Tallahassee, Florida, she received her master’s degree in Woodwind Performance from Florida State University (FSU) where she studied with Dr. Mary Matthews and Dr. Karen Large. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, Lindsey taught Applied Flute Lessons to undergraduate music majors, Woodwind Methods, Introduction to Baroque Flute, Flute Choir, and assisted with administrative duties. In addition to her teaching and performance responsibilities, Lindsey served as the President of the Flute Association at Florida State.
Lindsey is an accomplished performer, having served as principal flute for the FSU Symphony Orchestra and Wind Orchestra. In recognition of her artistry, she was awarded the prestigious Patsy Drury Hejl Scholarship for Outstanding Musical Achievement, praised by the selection committee for her “expression, fluidity, tone, and musicianship”. She had the honor of performing with the 2021 National Intercollegiate Band in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was a winner of the National Flute Association’s Collegiate Flute Choir Competition in 2022, performing at the annual convention in Chicago, Illinois. More recently, Lindsey was a featured soloist in a series of performances of Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto for schools in Thomasville, Georgia and won 3rdPrize in Kentucky Flute Society’s Young Artist Competition.
An advocate for new music, Lindsey is actively involved in commissioning new works for flute and percussion duo. Additionally, she is a founding member of the Cascade Wind Quintet, a Tallahassee-based chamber group committed to educational outreach.
In addition to her performance achievements, Lindsey is an experienced music educator and advocate for inclusive teaching practices. In 2021, she presented her paper Removing the Social Class Barriers in American Public-School Music Education at the Midwestern Educational Research Association Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio. With eight years of flute lesson teaching experience, she has served as the applied flute instructor for the Pikeville Independent School District and the Central Music Academy in Lexington, Kentucky. She maintains an active private studio of beginner through advanced level students in Tallahassee. Her students have achieved success with honor band auditions and acceptances to summer music programs.
Lindsey earned dual degrees in Music Education and Flute Performance from the University of Kentucky where she studied with Dr. Julie Hobbs. Lindsey is a proud member of national honorary music organizations Sigma Alpha Iota and Tau Beta Sigma. As she continues her professional career, Lindsey is committed to combining her passions for performance and education to connect with audiences and students alike.
