Nathaniel Yaffe, cello

Nathaniel Yaffe joined the North Carolina Symphony cello section in 2013, and has served as its archival recording engineer since 2016. Nathaniel is a founding member of the Oak City String Quartet and Cello Fourum, a cello quartet. During the summer, he performs with the Wintergreen Music Festival in Virginia.

When the North Carolina Symphony stopped performing live during the pandemic, Nathaniel produced, recorded, and edited over 25 concerts for broadcast during the 2020-2021 virtual season. As audiences return to the concert hall, these virtual concerts continue to supplement the North Carolina Symphony's live offerings. He has engineered and produced numerous recordings including the debut album of cellist David Requiro that was released to critical acclaim.

Nathaniel holds a double Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance and Audio Recording, and a Master of Music degree in Cello Performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. While still a student at CIM, Nathaniel served as a production intern at Telarc International, where he worked closely with GRAMMY award winning producers and engineers. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota. He has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the New World Symphony. Nathaniel’s cello teachers and mentors include Richard Aaron, Melissa Kraut, Michael Mermagen, and Tanya Remenikova.
